ARTIST STATEMENT

While watching an artist on YouTube, she created a collage and finished it by painting a layer of encaustic wax medium on top of it and I was completely mesmerized.  I HAD to learn what this was and how to work with it!   After some research, I found a class in LA and set up my studio for encaustic.

The scent of melted beeswax, my deep connection to nature, bees, organic textures and the natural archival quality, adds to a multi-sensory experience.  It instantly uplifts my mood as soon as the delicate scent is wafting in the air.  I work with lots of mediums, but encaustic with its versatility brings it all together.

My ideas bubble up and out of my subconscious as I process my thoughts and feelings.  It takes time to realize and comprehend why we feel a certain way and sometimes we may not yet have the words to describe or understand our internal life.  My art conveys what words sometimes cannot, and for this reason symbolism is infused into the encaustic layers.  When my art is complete, it feels like a pressure cooker releasing cathartic steam from my soul. Blowing the interior cobwebs away for a while and the lingering joy afterwards is ecstatic!
